Economic and political analysts have commended the recently held 2nd Russia –Africa Economic and Humanitarian Summit in St Petersburg Russia, stating that it further strengthened the diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Speaking during an interview with this publication, economic analyst Stephen Mafa, commended the move as a fruitful diplomatic effort which would help Zimbabwe to further improve its sustainable development and economic growth.
“In the country’s reengagement efforts, Russia has been a reliable friend to Zimbabwe since the ushering in of the New Dispensation. President Putin wants Zimbabwe to succeed especially in food security and economic growth, that is why we are witnessing traction in areas of co-operation such as in culture, infrastructure, mass media and information security.
“Memoranda of Understanding (MOUS) were signed in these areas to enable Zimbabwe to implement its Vision 2030 agenda. The areas included cooperation in the field of culture, development of modern infrastructure, international information security and use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
“The Second Republic’s engagement with Russia is helping to create jobs, economic growth and transfer technology into Zimbabwe, contributing into the country’s move towards a path of economic growth,” Mafa said.
Furthermore, political analyst Eldred Masunungure commended Government for being consistent in promoting the country’s foreign policy.
“Zim-Russia diplomatic ties are continuing to bear fruits on economic growth since 2018. The two countries share a history from the days of the liberation struggle and up to this day those diplomatic ties still exist as the two countries continue in mutual cooperation,” said Masunungure.
Meanwhile, Russian President, Vladimir Putin donated 50 000 metric tonnes of grain and 30000 metric tonnes of fertilizer to Zimbabwe. President Putin further bought President Emmerson Mnangagwa a presidential chopper which was handed over during the Russia-Africa Summit.
