President ED Mnangagwa warns drug cartels

President Emmerson Mnangagwa gave a stern warning to drug peddlers and cartels whose operations have brought a scourge of drug and substance abuse among the Zimbabwean youths.

Addressing thousands of youths who thronged Lupane State University for the 21st National Youth Indaba, the President challenged the security forces to thwart the drug cartels. This year's National Youth Day theme was; Drug and Substance abuse, A threat to vision 2030; every community's responsibility.

He added that he was aware that most of the drugs were being smuggled into Zimbabwe from other drug prone countries; thus security at all ports of entry was beign tightened.

Zimbabwe is not a drug and illegal substance producer or peddler and any efforts to do so will be expunged to defend our country and the youth, who are our future. Security at the country's ports of entry is being tightened to plug the movement and proliferation of harmful drugs and substances. To augment these ongoing efforts, the review of legislation and related policy measures on drug and substance abuse is receiving urgent attention, said President Mnangagwa.

Furthermore, President Mnangagwa challenged the youths to take advantage of the many business opportunities arising in Zimbabwe. He promised that ZANU PF was committed to facilitate youths in all their business endeavours taking advantage of the mantra # Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo . He urged the Youths to remain focused on hardworking and remain patriotic for the prosperity of Zimbabwe. He challenged the youths to open their eyes and see opportunities arising across the country under the mantra #leaving no one and no place behind.

Relatedly, the Anti-Drug Abuse Association of Zimbabwe (ADAAZ)  applauded President Mnangagwa on the timeous intervention to thwart drug and substance abuse by mostly the youths in Zimbabwe.

Charlton Moyo, a recovering drug addict, now employed by ADAAZ, thanked the President for the intervention and expedition of construction and setting up of rehabilitation centres. Sharing his ordeal, Moyo urged his peers to desist from the temptation of starting on drugs highlighting that it would ruin youths' future. He revealed that he has been off drugs for over 18 months now.
