Factionalism within the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) continues to wreak havoc as the difference between the Maruva cabal and Chamisa faction are becoming more defined, showing signs of a political meltdown on the eve of the 2023 harmonised general elections.
A well-placed source within the CCC has revealed that Maruva cabal, notably CCC interim secretary general, Charlton Hwende and CCC Member of Parliament (MP) for Marondera Central, Caston Matewu, had said they would prefer to see Chamisa hang before they could decline Government’s US$40 000 loan.
“Ivo vaHwende pavaitaura naMatewu panhare vakatoti hakuna zvakadero, mari havasi kuregera nechikonzero chekuti Chamisa aita godo rekuti iye haana chekubata. Vakatoti zvirinani varwise Chamisa panekudzosera marasha kuHwange (In a tele-conversation between Hwende and Matewu, Hwende indicated that they would not decline Government’s offer of the US$40 000 loan simply because Chamisa is jealous. He is jealous and is missing out. Hwende also indicated that he was prepared to risk his relationship with Chamisa than decline the Government offer),” said the source.
According to the source, these developments come after Chamisa reportedly tried to coerce party members from taking the loans despite an earlier announcement by that party’s interim vice spokesperson, Gift ‘Ostallos’ Siziba that members can apply for the loans.
In another unrelated development, Chamisa has allegedly engaged the services of a third party to persuade Hwende to reconsider his withdrawal from the Mugwazo activities in Mhondoro. According to the source, Chamisa was forced to swallow his pride and opt to negotiate a deal which might see Hwende re-engaging in the Mugwazo Mhondoro project.
“Chamisa is too desperate and unfortunately his camp lacks a person with Hwende’s capabilities. He has swallowed his pride and has sought the services of a third party to re-secure Hwende’s services in the Mugwazo project,” said the source.
Hwende withdrew from the Mugwazo project citing negative comments made against him by some unidentified party members. Attempts to get clarification from that party’s interim spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere were in vain as her phone went unanswered.
