Political activist, Hopewell Chin’ono has divided the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) party with reports exposing his capture of that party’s leader, Nelson Chamisa.
A source who spoke to this publication said that Chamisa exposed his unholy alliance with Chin’ono at a recent CCC caucus meeting when he told attendees that he received some intelligence from the activist that the legislators were plotting to rebel against him.
According to the source, Chamisa chaired a caucus meeting attended by six legislators and told them that he was informed by Chin’ono that the US$40 000 loan was a ploy by the ZANU PF led Government to pacify the CCC legislators and make them rebel against him.
“Chamisa was fuming in the meeting that he was told by Chin’ono that the US$40 000 loan was a ploy by Government to pacify CCC legislators and make them rebel against him. Chamisa said that Chin’ono got that information from a ZANU PF insider, hence the information could not be disputed. Chamisa said that receiving the loans from a ZANU PF Government was tantamount to staging a palace coup against him,” said the source.
The same source added that Chamisa fumed that some of his legislators were working in cahoots with ZANU PF to frustrate his presidential bid. In that meeting, Chamisa said that CCC legislators should not accept the loans and those who have already collected their share should return the money.
According to the source, there was disgruntlement within CCC legislators that Chin’ono has become the de facto advisor to Chamisa.
“There is disgruntlement within CCC as members are accusing Chin’ono of becoming the de facto advisor to Chamisa. Members are complaining that Chamisa no longer listens to other people’s advice except that of Chin’ono, Fadzayi Mahere and Gift Siziba,” said the source.
The source added that at another meeting held recently at CCC party offices in Malbereign, interim secretary general, Charlton Hwende had no kind words for Chin’ono whom he described as a divisive element bent on causing divisions within CCC.
Meanwhile, CCC Chief Whip, Prosper Mutseyami announced yesterday at a press conference that his party resolved to allow legislators to receive the US$40 000 loans from Government to improve their welfare.
