Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislators who were hobnobbing with the Douglas Mwonzora led MDC-T have their political lives hanging by the thread as they are likely to be expelled from CCC before the forthcoming plebiscite.
A source who spoke to this publication said that some legislators who were double dipping in both CCC and MDC-T should not be allowed to contest elections on behalf of CCC in 2023.
“We say no to MPs who were double dipping both in CCC and MDC-T. We are fully aware of MPs and councillors who are now coming to CCC and planning to lead Mugwazo programmes but they have been attending MDC-T meetings and programmes in Harare such that they won't be recalled. Now that ZEC announced that there are no more recalls, they are now siding with CCC to secure candidature in 2023. We want those double faced legislators to be expelled from CCC,” said the source.
The same source demanded that Chibaya, as the interim organising secretary, should make it public that those legislators who were dining and wining with Mwonzora should not be allowed to lead any party programmes.
“In Bulawayo, we have the likes of Judith Toffa, James Sithole, Mahlangu Sichelesile, Gift Banda, Charles Moyo and Councillor Mlandu Ncube who have been secretly attending Mwonzora meetings. These people cannot come and claim that they support the CCC cause and that they want to lead Mugwazo programmes because they were not loyal to president Nelson Chamisa and CCC. We urge Chibaya to make sure that these rotten apples are expelled from CCC before they corrupt other members,” added the source.
The source took a swipe at that party’s interim co-vice president Welshman Ncube, by claiming that there were also some legislators who were working with Ncube to revive the MDC-N ahead of the 2023 elections.
“Some of our legislators have been holding private meetings with Ncube seeking to revive MDC-N structures and allocating themselves posts to take over Bulawayo Province. They were nowhere near Mugwazo. We are ready to expose them. The party should give preference to its loyal cadres who supported the struggle from the beginning not these double faced members,” said the source.
According to the source, some of these legislators who were making problems within CCC were the ones who came from parties such as People's Democratic Party (PDP) and MDC-N.
Efforts to get a comment from CCC interim spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere were futile as her mobile phones were not reachable.
