Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activist and University of Zimbabwe lecturer, Dr Pedzisayi Ruhanya is set to contest as a legislator for Zengeza East constituency in the forthcoming elections.

A source who spoke to this publication said that Ruhanya was determined to dethrone the sitting CCC Zengeza East legislator, Goodrich Chimbaira and was currently working with CCC Zengeza East Chairwoman only identified as Ndingadii to mobilise people ahead of 2023 elections.

“Ruhanya is set to exchange the academic jacket with a political one as he is set to contest for the Zengeza East parliamentary seat in the forthcoming elections. Ruhanya is of the view that he has the political muscle to dethrone the siting legislator, Chimbaira who has fallen out of favour with the electorate. Currently, Ruhanya is being assisted by chairwoman, Ndingadii to endear himself with the people of Zengeza,” said the source.

The source added that tomorrow Ruhanya will be in Zengeza East constituency to assess his popularity and to meet with some CCC members.

“This weekend Ruhanya will be in Zengeza to assess his popularity in that area. He is set to meet some Change Champions as he is determined to lay the ground for his parliamentary campaign,” said the source.

According to the source, Ruhanya has confided in his close allies that he has financial backing from his Western friends who have assured him of resources to win in the coming elections.

The same source said that Ruhanya was bragging that he was well connected and has the capacity to turn the fortunes of Zengeza East if elected into office.

According to the source, Ruhanya is of the view that Chimbaira has lost touch with the electorate as he rarely hold constituency meetings with the people.

Efforts to get a comment from Ruhanya were futile as his mobile phones were not reachable.
