The ZANU PF Party will soon release the guidelines for the primary elections as the Party gears for the 2023 Harmonised General Elections.
Speaking at a press conference at the ZANU PF Headquarters in Harare yesterday, the Party’s National Political Commissar, Cde Mike Bimha said that they were seized with the task of drafting the primary elections guidelines so that deserving candidates would be chosen to represent the Party in the forthcoming plebiscite.
“We would like to make sure that the Party has a bigger say in terms of the calibre of aspiring candidates who come forward to stand for elections. What sort of attributes are we looking at from a candidate who comes forward to be an MP or councillor?” said Cde Bimha.
The National Political Commissar said that as a Party, they wanted to improve in the manner they conduct primary elections and announced that the primary elections roadmap was already being worked on.
“We have a lot that we have learnt over the past years. We have a lot of experience. We have a lot we have also identified so we want to improve going forward. I don’t have the dates for primary elections as of now but I would like to assure the nation that we have already started working on the roadmap,” said Cde Bimha.
Commenting on the just ended ZANU PF 7th National People’s Congress, Cde Bimha said that the Congress was a success with the major highlight being the massive endorsement of President Mnangagwa as the Party’s sole presidential candidate in next year’s elections.
Meanwhile, Cde Bimha said that President Mnangagwa will soon announce additional seven members of the newly formed Council of Elders. Currently, the Council has only three members namely Cde Josiah Hungwe, Cde Angeline Masuku and Cde Aaron Mabhoyi Ncube.
