Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) thugs yesterday attacked female NewsHawks journalist, Ruvimbo Muchenje at a rally that was being addressed by Nelson Chamisa at Gahadzima grounds in Chinhoyi.
A source who spoke to this publication said that Muchenje was caressed, assaulted and dragged in the mud by CCC thugs as she tried to find her way into the stadium.
“It was a sad scene seeing CCC security details assaulting the soft spoken journalist, Muchenje. One of the thugs loudly proposed love to Muchenje who ignored the proposal and this angered these thugs who began assaulting the female journalist. She was left bruised, with her blouse heavily, leaving her breasts exposed,” said the source.
Muchenje, who is the Young Journalist Association (YOJA) aspiring Secretary General, was only saved by the intervention of other journalists who restrained the CCC thugs from further assaulting her.
YOJA has condemned the attack on Muchenje and demanded that CCC should issue an apology and decisively deal with its rogue security details.
In a statement, YOJA outgoing Secretary General, Phil Jambaya said the Association would make a report to the police to have these CCC thugs arrested.
“YOJA strongly condemns this barbaric behaviour by CCC supporters and is calling upon the party to issue an apology and deal with its rogue security members. As the country prepares for the forthcoming 2023 Harmonised General Elections, political parties are urged to educate their members on the role that the media plays in providing crucial information about their activities and party policies.
“YOJA will soon engage CCC and make a police report against these misguided elements,” said Jambaya.
Meanwhile, journalists who spoke to this publication said that it was now scary to cover CCC rallies as that party’s members were violent, overzealous and they don’t respect the work of journalists.
