New Parliament building now complete

Government has informed the nation that the New Parliament Building is now complete.

Speaking during the 24th Post Cabinet press briefing yesterday, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Monica Mutsvangwa advised the nation that the New Parliament Building project which employed 1 200 locals was now 100 percent complete.

“The nation is being informed that the New Parliament Building structure is now 100 percent complete. The project employed more than 500 Chinese and 1 200 locals,” she said.

Minister Mutsvangwa highlighted that the New Parliament Building whose construction commenced on 30 November 2018, is located in Mt Hampden, 20km northwest of Harare City. She further disclosed that a Chinese company named SIPPR designed the building together with the Zimbabwe Design Team, while the construction contract was awarded to Shanghai Construction Group Company Limited at the same time the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works was the coordinator and supervisor for the project.

Minister Mutsvangwa added that the project was scheduled to have been completed at the end of July 2021, but due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was delayed by eight months.

Meanwhile, the Minister has acknowledged support that the People`s Republic of China is quick to render to the Government of Zimbabwe, a true reflection of the diplomatic relations that exist between the two nations spanning well over four decades.
