The Government through the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has explained, to the different stakeholders, reasons for the haste removal of the shield signage at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport, stating that the signage was put only as a temporary measure.
Speaking through a press statement yesterday, Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Felix Mhona said that his Ministry is committed to proper signage which meets the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development would like to inform the nation that it is committed to proper signage at all our airports in line with the ICAO standards. In this regard the Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ) continues to carry out its mandate of ensuring proper signage at all airports to ICAO standards.
“For the record, signage at J.M. Nkomo International Airport was done as a temporary measure following the upgrading of the airport and its commissioning in 2013,” said Mhona.
Mhona said the split of CAAZ into a Regulator and Operator gave rise to the formation of a new company, the Airports Company of Zimbabwe (ACZ), which assumed the responsibility of the operations and management of all airports, J.M Nkomo included. He further stated that, ACZ has since then been seized with the matter of improved signage at all airports.
Meanwhile, the Minister has assured the public and all stakeholders that their input and support is of paramount importance as ACZ is coming up with the design for the new signage.
