Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim national chairperson, Thabitha Khumalo has threatened to resign from that party in protest over the impending admission of Khupe into the new party saying that she can’t work with a traitor.

A source who spoke to this publication said that Khumalo has not yet forgiven Khupe for initiating her recall from parliament and has since vowed to block Khupe’s admission to the CCC.

“Madam Khumalo has threatened to resign from the party if Khupe is admitted into the party. Khumalo argues that Khupe is a divisive and a greed politician who should not be accommodated within CCC structures. To make matters worse, Khumalo has not yet forgiven Khupe for initiating her recall from parliament,” said the source.

The source said that Khupe was arguing that Khupe cannot come and enjoy the fruits of their work when she fought against the formation of CCC. According to the source, Khumalo was also afraid that the coming in of Khupe will automatically demote her as the godmother of the Matabeleland region.

“Ma Khumalo is afraid that if Khupe joins the CCC family, she will assume the position of the Matabeleland region’s godmother. Khumalo still wants to remain the most influential opposition female figure in the region. That’s why she doesn’t want Khupe to join the CCC,” said the source.

The same source added that Khumalo once confided in her allies that Khupe should first make a public apology and admit to her mistakes before thinking of joining the CCC. Khumalo further told her close associates that if Chamisa allows Khupe to be admitted into the party that would spell the death of CCC in Matabeleland region.

Meanwhile, there are reports that CCC co interim vice president Welshman Ncube is contemplating reviving his MDC –N and has since held inconclusive talks with former MDC chairperson Lovemore Moyo and Abednego Ncube to join hands and be a united force ahead of the 2023 plebiscite.
