Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa touched a storm yesterday following his tweet that denigrated the country’s ancestors and spirit mediums.
Chamisa’s tweet which vilified the dead and urged Zimbabweans from practicing the African Tradition Religion (ATR), attracted the wrath of Zimbabweans who castigated the CCC leader for looking down upon the African way of worship.
“When men tell you to consult the spirits of the dead and the spiritists who whisper and mutter, shouldn’t people consult their God instead? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living,” tweeted Chamisa.
In response to Chamisa’s tweet, Joseph Samanyara said, “It’s disgusting how Africans discriminate their own heritage and identity. You are simply ignorant when it comes to our Bantu religion. Even Jesus himself respected and honoured his ancestors the likes of Moses, Abraham, and Jacob .That’s why he died as a Jewish man”.
Another netizen, Edith Guuriro reminded Chamisa that the European Christianity that he envied so much was imposed on Africans by the colonisers.
“Stop insulting and mocking ATR. Africans never imposed their beliefs or culture on anyone. Your European Christianity was imposed upon Africans through rape, colonial genocide and theft. Who used the myth of Ham to enslave Africans?” said Guuriro.
Rodwell Tsikayi urged Chamisa not take his parochial views on religion and make them national opinion. He added that Chamisa as an aspiring leader should refrain from commenting on religious issues and only stick to politics.
Another netizen, Kudzai Mutisi, said Chamisa’s crooked views on religious issues will likely ruin his political career.
“That’s the reason he won’t be a president. We don’t want narrow minded people in positions of power,” said Mutisi.
George Chinyande said that it was ironic that Chamisa has the audacity to vilify the spirit mediums of the country, but he has a history of nicodemously visiting the same to seek political powers.
Chamisa has a history of misfiring whenever he speaks before a crowd or when conveying a message. Some political analysts have since warned that Chamisa’s uncultured speech was his biggest obstacle in his quest for political power.
