The ZANU PF female candidates for the forthcoming 26 March by-elections are confident of making history by reclaiming the parliamentary seats that have been under opposition formations.
The female candidates are battling it out with some male candidates from parties such as Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), ZAPU, LEAD and MDC Alliance.
In an interview with this publication, ZANU PF candidate for Harare East constituency, Cde Mavis Gumbo said she was optimistic that voters would realise the mistake they have been making all along in voting the opposition, whose representatives focused on corruption and not service delivery, after being elected.
“"For many years, Harare East was in the hands of an incompetent opposition legislator, Tendai Biti who only reappeared during the elections and disappeared after winning. But now I want to change the game since our President is a game-changer. We are going to make history by reclaiming Harare East constituency,” said Cde Gumbo.
The Party’s Tsholotsho South candidate, Cde Musa Ncube echoed Cde Gumbo’s sentiments. She said that time had proved that the opposition legislators had no people’s interests at heart as they only wanted to use their parliamentary seats to loot and amass wealth for themselves.
"Opposition legislators are after their personal egos. The people of Tsholotsho now know that the only party that can bring them development is ZANU PF. I have been telling people in my constituency that it is very critical to vote for Zanu PF which has the people at heart. We will ensure that we bring back notable development to the constituency,” said Cde Ncube.
ZANU PF candidate for Epworth Constituency, Cde Zalerah Makari says she expects nothing short of a landslide victory in the polls. Makari, who is battling it out with former legislator, Eathrage Kureva of CCC, Richard Musiyadzaanikwa of LEAD, Innocent Hazvina (Independent), and Zivai Togarepi Mhetu of MDC Alliance, said her confidence emanated from the work that ZANU PF had done and continues to do in Epworth.
Makari said she also wanted to finish what she started during her previous tenure in Parliament.
‘We are expecting victory, nothing but a landslide victory because we have worked, and we are still working in the constituency. I was once the MP for the constituency from 2015 to 2018 and so you can say I am coming back to finish what we started,’’ she said.
Harare Central ZANU PF candidate, Cde Loice Magweba said she was geared to change Harare Central constituency for the better by ensuring service delivery to the people. She said she was confident that ZANU PF would reclaim the seat come 26 March.
The female candidates applauded the Party for walking the talk on gender equality by ensuring that women are given the chance to represent the Party in the forthcoming elections.
