President Mnangagwa has said that the era of mediocre performances by senior Government officials that used to curtail Government’s success is over as senior officials would be held accountable for their actions.
Speaking today during the signing ceremony of the Performance Contracts for Cabinet Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Chairperson and Chief Executive Officers of public entities and local authority, President Mnangagwa said the Performance Contracts were part of Government’s efforts to put an end to mediocre performances.
“Performance under the Second Republic must answer to the preservation and defence of our independence and sovereignty while at the same time meeting the aspirations of the many sons and daughters who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nationhood. The Performance Contracts being signed here today are, thus, part of my Government’s efforts to put an end to undue contentment as well as mediocre performance and service delivery, which have in the past curtailed our success,” said the President.
The President added that improving livelihoods, achieving inclusive and equitable economic growth as well as sustainable development which leaves no one and no place behind were key tenets of his administration. He further said that he was cognisant that productivity and efficiencies within the public sector were important to the overall performance of the economy and the prosperity of the people.
President Mnangagwa told the senior civil servants that their focus should be on improving the living standards of the people and that should be anchored by a better performance of public entities and the delivery of critical public goods and services.
According to President Mnangagwa, the high performance culture of the 2nd Republic has ushered the country into a nation of limitless opportunities across all sectors, regardless of gender, region or origin.
The President further congratulated the Permanent Secretaries who met their set targets last year and said that they deserved commendation with regards to the implementation of high impact and people centred programmes and projects.
Meanwhile, the four best performing Permanent Secretaries for the year 2021 were honoured today and they received the President’s Award for Performance Excellence in Service Delivery. The four who were honoured were Dr John Basera, Professor Fanuel Tagwira, Mr George Guvamatanga and Dr Sithokozile Chitepo.
