The late former Prime Minister and MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai was an admirer of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his developmental policies.
This was revealed by former MDC-T Kwekwe Central legislator Blessing Chebundo while speaking at a ZANU PF campaign rally in Kwekwe over the weekend.
“We started seeing a transformation and a party which had a different ideology when President Emmerson Mnangagwa took over. The late Morgan Tsvangirai used to admire the way President Mnangagwa did his things and this is why it did not take time to come back home,” said Chebundo.
Chebundo said the opposition in Zimbabwe had nothing to offer to the electorate and he utilised the platform to parade five members of the Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) who had defected to ZANU PF. Chebundo said the opposition was in disarray and urged Zimbabweans to overwhelmingly vote for ZANU PF in the coming by-elections slatted for 26 March 2022.
At the same meeting, three members of the now defunct National Patriotic Party (NPF) crossed the floor and joined ZANU PF saying that life in the opposition has become unbearable. The defectors said they had missed home (ZANU PF) and they would work tirelessly to make ZANU PF a party of choice in Kwekwe.
“ZANU PF is our home .We want to apologise for the mistake we did in 2018 when we foolishly dumped the ruling party opting for the ideologically bankrupt NPF. We are grateful to the Party for welcoming us back and we vow not to misbehave again. We will now devote much of our time in working for ZANU PF and we will not go astray again,” said one NPF defector.
ZANU PF is optimistic that it will reclaim the Kwekwe Central seat which was won by the late NPF legislator Masango Matambanadzo. Cde John Mapurazi is the ZANU PF’s candidate in Kwekwe Central and he is hopeful that he will be declared the winner after the 26 March by-elections.
