Cracks are beginning to emerge in the Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance coalition with reports that one of the Alliance partners, MDC Green/Ncube, was pushing for its leader Welshman Ncube to contest in the forthcoming presidential elections.
A source within the MDC Alliance told this publication that yesterday, MDC Green/Ncube held a mobilization meeting in Macheke and they urged people to consider voting Ncube for presidency in 2023.
“Yesterday, MDC Green was in Masvingo where it held a successful rally in Macheke as it was mobilising people to consider voting for Ncube in the next presidential elections. It urged the members to register to vote and told them that the MDC Green was not dead as widely insinuated by some people,” said the source.
The source added that it was clear that Ncube had resolved to challenge for the country’s presidency and he was using his allies to market him to the people.
“It’s not a secret that Ncube will not be in an Alliance with Chamisa in 2023 because he is also planning to contest for the presidency. It’s only a matter of time before he announces his resignation from the MDC Alliance to focus on reviving his MDC Green,” added the source.
The source added that Ncube was in secret talks with the MDC Alliance national chairperson, Thabitha Khumalo, whom she wants to lure to his party. According to the source, Ncube has a feeling that the Ndebele speaking people are being short changed within the MDC Alliance and he was calling on all Ndebele people to join his party as he prepares to contest for the presidency.
Efforts to get a comment from Ncube were futile as his mobile phone was not reachable.
