Former MDC Alliance deputy treasurer, Lilian Timveous has labelled her former party’s leadership as selfish and confused, adding that they are only in politics to push for regime change as well as lining their pockets.
In an interview yesterday, Timveous said she regrets the time she spent in the opposition and urged Zimbabweans not to be hoodwinked by the MDC Alliance leadership as they do not care about the wellbeing of the nation.
“I regret the time I spent in the opposition. I wasted my time and resources opposing the Government. I later realized that the opposition, especially the MDC Alliance, exists only to push the agenda of their Western handlers and amass wealth for themselves. They don’t care about Zimbabweans or the wellbeing of the nation. The people of Zimbabwe should not be hoodwinked by the MDC Alliance into hating their country or Government,” said Timveous.
Timveous added that the MDC Alliance was a confused party composed of overambitious members who were always fighting among themselves. She said she joined ZANU PF after realizing that it was the only stable and people centered party in Zimbabwe.
“I decided to join ZANU PF because it is the only stable party in Zimbabwe. I also joined ZANU PF after I had been charmed by the developmental programmes that were being undertaken by President Mnangagwa’s Government. Again, it was not proper for me to remain in the opposition when the President was from my home Province of Midlands,” added Timveous.
Timveous advised the opposition to desist from politics of vengeance and join hands with the ruling party in building the country. She said the MDC Alliance should stop politicking and play their party in complimenting Government’s efforts in reviving the economy. Timveous added that the MDC Alliance should be on the forefront denouncing sanctions if it wanted the people of Zimbabwe to respect it.
This year, Timveous, Obert Gutu, and Blessing Chebundo, among hordes of opposition supporters, defected to ZANU PF citing lack of political strategy by the opposition leaders and ZANU PF’s charming empowerment programmes as reasons for their defections.
