The MDC Alliance has been accused of neglecting its Harare Provincial Youth Assembly member, Courage Musara, to death despite receiving monetary donations to take him to specialist doctors.
Musara, who died of kidney cancer, was buried last week at Unit L cemetery in Chitungwiza and the MDC Alliance deputy national chairperson, Job Sikhala, attended the burial.
However, Musara’s relative who preferred to be called Mai Ano said the MDC Alliance leaders were hypocrites who neglected Musara, only to appear with solidarity speeches at his funeral.
“My nephew was diagnosed of kidney cancer and he died because he failed to get specialist services. The hospital bills and the medicine needed were beyond our reach as a family. However, we heard that Courage’s former political mentor, Elliot Pfebve, donated some money to cater for the medication but the funds were allegedly misappropriated by the MDC Alliance leadership,” said Mai Ano.
Mai Ano added that grapevine has it that Pfebve who is now based in the United Kingdom, donated US$10 000.00 for the treatment of Musara. The money was sent through the MDC Alliance leadership for onward delivery to Musara. However, only US$260.00 was given to Musara by one senior MDC Alliance official.
The relative added that she was pained to see Sikhala giving a moving speech at the funeral despite neglecting Musara when he needed them most. She added that Musara was not well appreciated by the MDC Alliance for the work he did to mobilize support for the party in Mashonaland Central Province. Musara and other party youth were deployed by Pfebve in Rushinga in the early 2000 to campaign for the party.
Meanwhile, Sikhala used the funeral to incite the youths to violently confront the ruling ZANU PF and Government.
In what could be perceived as a veiled attack on MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa, Sikhala said the MDC Alliance had been reduced to a lukewarm party with no capacity to confront the Government. He added that the youths should emulate him and ZINASU president Takudzwa Ngadziore who had the courage to face the Government head on. He said politics of words without actions was foreign to the MDC Alliance and urged the youths to be militant.
The abuse of funds within the MDC Alliance is rampant with reports also insinuating that money donated to cater for legal fees of Makomborero Haruzivishe was squandered by some party members.
