Former ZANU PF’s G40 faction kingpin and MDC Alliance political advisor has described the MDC Alliance as disorganised, intolerant, immature and not strategic in its politics.
In a Twitter thread, Professor Moyo described the MDC Alliance as a spineless party that majors in criticising other political parties and Government, yet it lacks tangible action towards its own constituency.
“An opposition political party that wants to be taken seriously as government in waiting has a duty to itself, to show not just capacity, but also some fighting spirit and spine against all odds, so far the MDC A has shown none. Where it has opposed, it has not proposed,” said Prof Moyo.
Prof Moyo exposed the MDC Alliance support base, describing it as weak and a major contributor towards its failure to mobilise enough votes ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.
“A glaring weakness of the MDC A is that it is Harare-centric, yet Zimbabwe is not Harare and Harare is not Zimbabwe. Related to its Harare-centric, the MDC A often comes up with great ideas like citizens Convergence for Change and Clean-up Campaign, which end up only as bad photo ops, and fail like a bright, but delinquent undergraduate who fails to graduate due to incomplete assignments,” said Prof Moyo.
Prof Moyo also took swipe at the party for being obsessed with deifying its principals to the exclusion of anything else.
“Also and rather strangely for a young political party with a young leadership, too often for its own good, the MDC A has exhibited tired and detested tendencies of getting too preoccupied with principals over principles, to the detriment of good ideas and good policies.
“In the MDC Alliance, principals get more media coverage than principles, but voters prefer policies and programmes, (which ZANU PF has delivered) and they not only want to hear promises from politicians, but they also want to see outcomes of the promises on the ground. Words with nothing works to show for them is bad politics,” concluded Prof Moyo.
One netizen identified as Petros Hondo, concurred with Prof Moyo’s assertions describing the leader of the MDC Alliance as visionless.
“You nailed ita apo pawati Principals vs Principles. Iyezvino inongova Chamisa Chete Chete. Plan dololo.
Since his inauguration in 2018, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has tackled the promises made in the Election Manifesto, from fighting corruption, infrastructure development, smart agriculture, engagement and re-engagement, attracting FDI, creation of jobs and provision of homes, construction of clinics and schools to mention, but a few.
