Addressing staff members at the ZANU PF Administration and Policy Coordinating Committee meeting held in Harare recently, the Party's Secretary for Administration Cde Obert Mpofu urged people to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 regulations in the wake of increased infection and death rates.
This past month has seen the number of Covid19 cases and deaths rising and this has led to His Excellency the President and ZANU PF First Secretary Cde E. D Mnangagwa enforcing the level 4 lockdown as a way of curbing the spread of the virus.
Cde Mpofu said, “This past month of July we have been indebted with several of our comrades succumbing to the dreaded Covid19 pandemic. The same month July has realised high infection and death rates. This has been really unprecedented as we have continuously recorded an average of fifty (50) deaths per day. That’s a lot and these are human lives,” Cde Mpofu said.
The Secretary for Administration however highlighted that the numbers of people that had been vaccinated to date was pleasing, but hoped for stringent Covid19 measure to be implemented since the infection rate was high in some areas.
“We are however encouraged by the appetite to be vaccinated by the whole nation which now stands at 1 562 285 for the first dose and 730 000 for the 2nd dose. Cumulatively we have now achieved the 2million mark as we strive to meet the herd immunity.
“We should take heed to ensure that all our concentrations do not become complacent as the realisation that this pandemic is real. We are also equally concerned by the high infection rate in Masvingo and other areas. We are hoping that stringent Covid19 measures will be implemented’” said the Secretary for Administration.
Cde Mpofu went on to praise ZANU PF Vice President and Second Secretary Cde K. C. D Mohadi for drumming up issues to do with observance of the Covid19 protocols in his Provincial tours.
“The Provincial road shows by the Vice President and Second Secretary Cde K. C. D Mohadi in which he is drumming up the issues of the observance of the Covid19 protocols is quite significant and appropriate in these trying times. We urge that the same message is rallied across all provinces.
“Here at Party Headquarters the interventions implemented by our Secretary for Health and Elderly as it relates to constant covid19 cases and vaccinations, control of human traffic frequenting the premises is gradually bringing sanity and orderliness. We should continue minimising our staff from being exposed to this scourge,” highlighted Cde Mpofu.
Speaking on the same issue at the same meeting the ruling Party's National Spokesperson Cde Simon Khaya Moyo urged the Party leadership at all levels to continue educating people on the proper ways of masking up.
On another note, Cde Mpofu went on to highlight that the month of August was special in that the country celebrates the national heroes and forces for their gallantry in defending the sovereignty of Zimbabwe.
