… a history from our own viewpoint 

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, today emphasised on the need to ensure that the correct events of our nation’s history are presented in the correct way.  The President said this while speaking during the unveiling of the statue and monument of our iconic and legendary national heroine Mbuya Nehanda Nyakasikana.

“We are determined to ensure that the narratives of our nation are presented in the correct historical perspective,” he said.

He further exhorted institutions of learning and Government Departments responsible for cultural information as well as the media to play their part in sending out the right information for consumption to the people of Zimbabwe.

“A people without the knowledge of their past history, and origion are like trees without roots.  Under the Second Republic, the journey of portraying our true history and heritage through the correct glorifications of our people, has begun.  This is the factual history and we are setting the record straight.

“I exhort National institutions, communities, the education fraternity and media as well as political parties and the youths to play their part in correcting and popularising the rich history of our beloved country.

“As we do so the determination to tell our own story from our own perspectives emboldens and encourages us,” the President said.

The President further encouraged the promotion of an African body of knowledge, that will inform generations  and stimulate patriotism and commitment to one’s own country, history and culture.

 “I exhort players in the research and literal ecosystem, creative arts and culture industry to forge partnerships that amplify the development of an African grounded body of knowledge, literal works and artistic impressions".

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe has been tasked with the responsibility for the creation and establishment of the Museum of Africa Liberation.  The Museum of Africa Liberation is aimed at documenting the liberation struggle of the continent.  There can be no other better way to lead such an important task than Zimbabwe spearheading in the construction, promotion and preservation of its historical heroes, heroines and artifacts.
