2021 schools examination fees announced

Government has announced this year’s public examinations fees with candidates in public schools paying only 45 percent of the fees as it continues to subsidise same for those learning at Government schools, local authority and not-for-profit mission schools.

In a statement yesterday, Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) Assistant Finance Director, Mrs Muzenda, said as a way of cushioning parents and guardians, Government would subsidise candidates at Government schools, local authority and not-for-profit mission schools by paying 55 percent of the total examination fees while learners from private institutions will pay the full amount.

“Please be advised that Government will be subsidizing the 2021 Ordinary and Advanced level examination fees by 55 percent in public schools, Local Authority schools, and not-for-profit mission schools. All candidates in private schools and colleges including private candidates in public schools will pay the full cost of the examination fees. The full cost of the examinations for O and A levels will be ZWL$1648.00 and ZWL$2400.00 per subject respectively,” said Muzenda.

ZIMSEC added that candidates in public schools would pay 45 percent of the full cost of the examination fees which would be ZWL$742.00 and ZWL$1080.00 per subject for Ordinary and Advanced level respectively. Extra territorial candidates will pay ZWL$3840.00 for Ordinary level subject and ZWL$4896.00 for Advanced level subject.

According to ZIMSEC, Ordinary level candidates will pay ZWL$1978 for a practical subject, while Advanced level candidates will pay ZWL$1080 for the same. Late entry fees were pegged at ZWL$2952.00 per subject.

The ZIMSEC Assistant Finance Director further informed that Government’s subsidise would only be for seven (7) Ordinary level subject and four (4) Advanced level subjects. Candidates who want to sit for more subjects would have to meet the full cost of those subjects. She added that the closing date for registration is 9 July 2021 and late entry closes on the 30th of the same month.

Last year, Government released ZWL$150 million to ZIMSEC to subsidise exam fees for those learning at Government schools, local authority and not-for-profit mission schools.
