The MDC Alliance Bulawayo Ward 25 councilor, Mzama Dube has been accused of defrauding Nketa residents of cash under the pretext of securing them residential stands from the Bulawayo City Council.
Dube is also being accused of duping a certain Pentecostal church (name withheld) of US$350.00 after he promised to facilitate a church stand.
Residents who spoke to this publication said Dube had a tendency of borrowing money from people without repaying the dues.
“A lot of people have lost money to Dube. He goes around borrowing money and he does not pay back the money. To make matters worse, he will block your contacts soon after borrowing from you. We wonder what type of a leader Dube is,” said one resident of Nkulumane.
Another resident who only gave out his first name as Joshua said Dube borrowed some chickens from him on Christmas Eve last year and he has failed to pay US$20 for the chickens.
“Dube borrowed four chickens last year and promised to pay within three days. It’s now three months and Dube has not shown any willingness to pay me US$20 for my chickens. Iam thinking of reporting him to the police or to his party leadership,” said Joshua.
Another resident of Ward 25 said their Ward was lagging behind in terms of development as their Councilor was only focused on deals that enriches him.
An elder with a certain Pentecostal church in Bulawayo told this publication that they were duped out of US$350 by Dube after he had promised that he would facilitate a church stand for them.
“We were duped US$350 by Councilor Dube after he promised us that he will facilitate a church stand for us. He had told us that we will get the church stand within few days but it’s almost a year now and we are yet to get the promised stand,” complained the church elder.
This publication established that Dube has a tendency of defrauding people of their hard earned cash through promising them residential stands.
In 2014, Dube defrauded one Mapidza of US$600 after promising him an infill residential stand in Nketa suburbs.
The Harare Post also established that Dube was in the habit of borrowing people’s monies without paying them back. In 2011, when he was the treasurer of MDC ward 25 burial society, he embezzled about US$400 of the society’s money. A senior party official had to pay it on his behalf after members threatened to report to the police.
Efforts to get a comment from Dube were fruitless after he indicated that he was not authorized to speak to the press without his party’s clearance.
