ZANU PF clarifies President’s sentiments on failing councils

The ruling ZANU PF party has clarified President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s clarion call for residents to vote out clueless opposition-led councils saying that the President believes in robust service delivery to ratepayers.

In a statement, ZANU PF National Spokesperson, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo slated the Newsday for maliciously and falsely accusing the Government and the party of sabotaging the MDC-led councils.

“ZANU PF took note of the Newsday story which came out in their paper on Friday 19th of February, maliciously and falsely accusing the central Government and the Party of sabotaging the MDC-led councils. The story further went on to make frivolous allegations in its desperate attempt to misinterpret the President’s clarion call for the people to vote the MDC-led councils out.

“For the record, ZANU PF as the ruling party has neither policy nor desire to sabotage service delivery,” said Ambassador Moyo.

Ambassador Moyo said President Mnangagwa believes in servant leadership where service delivery is a priority.

“The party as led by His Excellency President Mnangagwa believes in servant leadership where saving the people through robust service delivery should be the priority at all times. The Party, its leadership and the generality of our people are tired of the retrogressive shenanigans happening in the opposition-led councils which border on total ignorance, neglect, abandonment of responsibility and blatant failure to steward council resources for the benefit of the rate payers and our residents in general,” added Ambassador Moyo.

Ambassador Moyo further reminded scribes and the generality of the people that there can be no genuine cleansing of opposition-led councils when the majority of the city fathers have been embroiled in one corruption case after the other.

He added that the challenges being faced by the opposition-led councils were a serious health time bomb which could affect everyone regardless of one’s political affiliation.

Ambassador Moyo said ZANU PF called upon the media and other stakeholders to frankly, honestly, genuinely and truthfully interrogate the origins of the rot in urban towns without wearing political jackets.

The National Spokesperson added that ZANU PF reiterated President Mnangagwa’s call during the last Politburo session for people to vote out clueless councilors out of office in the next elections and added that the Party was not apologetic about this clarion call.

In its publication of 19 February 2020, the Newsday falsely insinuated that President Mnangagwa had put a plan in motion for ZANU PF to take over all opposition-led councils for failing to provide adequate service to ratepayers.
