ZANU PF concerned with unjustified price hikes

The ZANU PF party is concerned with the recent wave of price increases which it says are largely unjustified.

In a statement yesterday, ZANU PF national spokesperson Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said the price hikes were speculative and unjustified.

“The Revolutionary ZANU PF party is concerned by the recent spike of cost of goods and services particularly basic commodities. Such a development has no grounding in basic economics. It is merely a manifestation of greed in some of our business entities,” said Ambassador Moyo.

The Party said businesses should exercise empathy towards consumers who are currently battling the effects of COVID-19 pandemic.

“With COVID 19 pandemic ravaging the country, empathy should be at play in our daily relations. The deadly pandemic has not spared our economy, hence the need to take care of each other. The WHO protocols relevant to this virus and Ministry of Health and Child Care regulations must be observed religiously. We are indeed all endangered species.

“There is therefore no need for unscrupulous and speculative behaviour which has led to this situation-soaring of prices,” reads part of the statement.

Ambassador Moyo said ZANU PF is appealing to the business community to conduct their business ethically.

Business analyst, Mr Lloyd Musumha who spoke to this publication said the business community has adopted an evil tendency of randomly increasing prices without a cause, except that of greedy and profiteering.

“There is no justification for business to increase prices of goods and services considering that the same businesses are accessing foreign currency at the Government’s foreign currency auction market where the rate is stable. I urge the business to desist from this evil tendency of increasing prices without reason, except that of greedy and profiteering,” said Musumha.

Efforts to get a comment from president of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers Association (CZRA), Denford Mutashu were fruitless as his phones were not being answered.
