Mashonaland East youths are working in line with the First Secretary and President, His Excellency Cde E.D Mnangagwa’s vision 2030 to turn Zimbabwe into a upper middle income economy status by 2030, by providing modern, decent, affordable housing.
Speaking during an interview with this publication yesterday after Deputy Minister of Housing and Social Amenities, Yeukai Simba Negavi toured the Diamond Park housing community project in Melfort Mashonaland East, Mashonaland East Youth League Secretary for Education and CEO for Eastwind and Vintage Properties, Cde Rogers Pote said he was hoping to see a brighter Zimbabwe in line with vision 2030 through the provision of descent and affordable housing for the Zimbabwean people.
“Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Daniel Garwe has been visiting all the 10 provinces to meet Rural District Councils and Local Councils preaching to them on providing land to build modern, affordable and durable houses so as to attain vision 2030. In his visits Minister Garwe has been encouraging the need to modernise the rural areas so as to decongest the cities and reduce rural to urban migration. This project is therefore one of the first of such projects.
“In line with President Mnangagwa’s vision 2030 we expect to see a brighter Zimbabwe. People in the rural areas should not wish to be in town, but have everything at their disposal locally and those in urban areas should be able to appreciate those in the rural areas as such.
“Those youths coming to build homes here in the rural areas should come with a brighter vision of Zimbabwe in their heads and build modern houses, that with uplift the housing standards in our country which will attract investors to come and invest in Zimbabwe. So they should follow the recommended plans we have for cottages but those with other better plans are also welcome. Youths have been accommodated in the housing projects because it is known that they do not have money to buy stands through the usually commercialised channels. We sat down as youths and saw it wise to empower ourselves through this channel,” said the Youth League Secretary.
Pote also said through this Project as youths they wanted to demystify the myth that everything the youth starts has no direction.
“We are working with qualified and professional engineers in our midst. We are working in accordance to the laws and the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities,” he said.
Harare Post has learnt there are also plans to urgently drill 100 boreholes in Melfort to provide water to the 1100 stands unveiled for the youths.
