Netizens have dismissed the abduction story and the subsequent death of the MDC Alliance Hurungwe Central District Chairperson, Lovender Chiwaya, as nothing, but a tired propaganda story meant to tarnish the image of the country.
On their Twitter handle ,@mdczimbabwe, the MDC Alliance insinuated that Chiwaya ,who is also the Hurungwe Central Ward four Councillor, was abducted by suspected State security agents and his corpse was later found four houses away from his home.
However, netizens were quick to dismiss the abduction story and urged the MDC Alliance to desist from fabricating stories to tarnish the good image of the country.
One netizen ,Phoenix, said, “so every death of anyone affiliated with the MDC is because of State security agents? Why do the MDC run with such a narrative when they don’t have evidence to buttress their narrative? The MDC should not create outrage based on suspicion”.
Another netizen, Shumirai Nyashanu ,said the MDC Alliance must not conclude that the man was killed by State security agents, because the man might have been killed by someone else who had a vendetta against him.
“Don’t conclude that the man was killed by State security agents. What if Chiwaya had been killed by someone in his neighbourhood who had a vendetta against him,” tweeted Nyashanu.
Another Twitter user who goes by the name Madam also urged the MDC Alliance not to make unsubstantiated claims that will tarnish the image of the country.
“Unsubstantiated assumptions is not evidence. People need to be more responsible with what they allege as this might cause harmful effect to our nation,” tweeted Madam.
One Godfrey Chenge also tweeted that, “the MDC Alliance are now using death of their members to gain political mileage”.
Chenge further said that the knack of pointing a finger at Government when something bad has happened within the MDC is now a tired script that is no longer being taken seriously by Zimbabweans.
Over the years, the MDC has been accused of fabricating abduction stories in a bid to tarnish the image of the Government and the country at large.
Recently, the MDC Alliance trio of Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova were arrested for faking their own abduction. The trio’s case is still pending before the courts.
