Zvimba North House of Assembly Member Marien Chombo has said she is working on rehabilitating gravel roads in the constituency ahead of the introduction of Zupco buses.
Speaking to this publication Cde Chombo reavealed that first on her priority list was the busy Banket-Raffingora road which links Zvimba and Guruve in Mashonaland Central Province, followed by other smaller feeder roads.
"Work has already begun and I have engaged Muriel gold mine from the constituency to assist with relevant machinery. We are mobilising fuel and manpower from the locals. People are responding well as they desperately need good roads. We are expecting to finish the rehabilitation exercise by April," she said.
Cde Chombo said she had since requested for Zupco buses to service the constituency routes.
"Local kombi operators are charging exorbitant fares which are beyond the reach of many hence the need for Zupco buses. Am happy that responsible authorities have promised us a bus soon," she said.
Some Zupco buses have already been deployed to rural areas as Government fulfils its promise of cushioning citizens from high transport costs.
Cde Chombo also noted that the poor state of roads in the constituency had affected easy access to clinics and other service centres especially during the rainy season.
Besides roads rehabilitation, Cde Chombo revealed that she is working on improving access to clean water.
"I am also prioritising improving access to clean water. It has remained a cause for concern in the constituency. I am happy that to date I have assisted with the drilling of ten boreholes since 2011 and I want to increase the number so that people will not travel long distances to access clean water," she said.
