Programme of the much awaited Anti-Sanction Day pencilled for the 25th of October, was yesterday presented before cabinet by Vice President Kembo Mohadi who highlighted that the day would be filled with solidarity messages from local and international speakers and a lot of entertainment.
While addressing the media on the 37th Cabinet decision matrix yesterday, Acting Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Professor Amon Murwira said, “Marchers are expected to assemble at Robert Mugabe Square by 0600 hours, from where they will proceed to the National Sports Stadium at 0800 hours. Highlights of the events scheduled to take place at the National Sports Stadium will include entertainment, solidarity messages by various national and international presenters, presentation of research findings on the background and impact of the illegal sanctions.”
Minister Murwira further revealed that a soccer match between Dynamos and Highlanders football clubs and anti-sanctions Gala will run from 1800 hours on the same day till the following morning.
Same also noted that similar activities are expected to take place at various provincial and district centres throughout the country and that the general public would be advised of more details of logistical arrangements in the build-up to the occasion.
Due to the importance of the day, Friday the 25th October was declared an official public holiday to give all Zimbabweans a chance to participate in programmes lined up across the country to denounce the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the United States (US) and the European Union (EU).
SADC countries declared October 25 as a solidarity day against illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe and resolved to conduct various activities in their respective countries on that day to resoundingly call for the immediate removal of the sanctions.
It is therefore prudent for all Zimbabweans across political and religious divide, to come in their numbers and to actively participate towards the success of this grand and noble initiative.
Meanwhile, the security forces are vigilant to clandestine plans by some rogue MDC elements and the Civic Society Organisations to infiltrate this important programme and engage in criminal activities. Messages circulating on social media reveal that the anti-government elements want to engage in acts of violence and looting shops like what they did in January 2019 in an effort to discredit the programme.
