The Ministry of Health and Child Care has requested the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (PRAZ) to work with it in addressing the gaps within the Ministry.
The conference is running under the theme “Towards vision 2030: Public health supply chain conference and exhibition- Harnessing on public and private sector synergies.”
Addressing the joint conference, Ministry of Health and Child Care Permanent Secretary, Dr Agnes Mahomva said, “We will dive into a little bit detail in this area as well. Gone are the days when we look at just the program implementation routine, what are the gaps and so on.
“Let us look at some of the procurement issues so that you actually help us specifically articulate the gaps so that as we move forward to put in our next strategic plan, we are addressing those gaps in a strategic way not in a haphazard way,” she said.
Dr Mahomva spoke about the power of collaboration and deliberation on modalities for facilitating public health supply chain and ensures that no one is left behind in the access to health facilities and drugs.
She highlighted challenges faced by the health delivery system, citing that they are receiving support from development partners.
“Challenges faced in health delivery such as shortage of medicines, inadequacies of emergency transport, communication systems and strengthening of the Health Management Information System is receiving support from development partners and is yielding fruit,” she said.
PRAZ CEO Mr Nyasha Chizu highlighted that their first port of call is plugging procurement loopholes in different Government department and parastatals, some of which were unearthed by the Auditor General in 2018.
