President Emmerson Mnangagwa has assured the nation that the Government is working hard to make sure that Zimbabwe gets back on its feet.
While addressing thousands of people at the National Sports Stadium in Harare yesterday, President Mnangagwa encouraged Zimbabweans to work together with Government in defending Zimbabwe’s hard earned independence.
“Let us consolidate our hard-won independence through disciplined focus on the development of the economy and improvements in the quality of life of all. For Zimbabwe to prosper and attain Vision 2030, we need the collective efforts of all citizens at home and abroad.
“The implementation of the Transitional Stabilization Programme (TSP) has since gathered momentum. My Government remains committed to address distortions in all sectors of the economy,” he said.
President Mnangagwa expressed disgruntlement over the recent spate of price hikes, saying it was wrong and that Government would look into the issue to make sure things return to normalcy.
“Government is alarmed by the recent wanton and indiscriminant increases of prices which have brought about untold suffering to the people. This conduct by stakeholders in business, industry and commerce is inhumane, unethical, unpatriotic and goes against the grain of economic dialogue which the Second Republic has espoused. Government remains determined to restore the purchasing power to all workers,” said President Mnangagwa.
To alleviate people’s problems of public transport, President Mnangagwa assured Zimbabweans that Government is now working on the plight of commuters with the reintroduction of ZUPCO buses.
“The commuting public has been at the mercy of errant kombi operators for a long time. Government has now stepped in to alleviate the plight of the commuters through the reintroduction of buses under the banner of ZUPCO. We are increasing the ZUPCO fleet so that affordable bus services are extended to all areas, especially in rural areas,” he said.
To top it up, President Mnangagwa assured people that Government is working hard to make sure that no child will have to walk for more than 5km to get to primary school. He said the pace of the construction of more schools would be quickened especially in marginalized areas in some parts of Matebeleland and Mashonaland Central Provinces.
He highlighted on the importance of the health sector and said the Government was making progress in revamping the health delivery system. He also said that Government was working on accelerating the ongoing negotiations with stakeholders so as to guarantee adequate provisions of affordable medicines and medical supplies in hospitals.
He assured the nation that Government will continue putting safety nets to protect the vulnerable groups in society. He said due attention is being given to the needy with a view to empowering them. To this end, he said the distribution of grain to food insecure households was underway.
