The District Development Fund (DDF) is repairing more than 600km stretch of roads damaged in Chikomba district, the Harare Post reports.
On a tour of Chikomba district yesterday, DDF Provincial Coordinator, Mr Mudzingwa Mudzingwa told the Harare Post that Chikomba district was badly affected by Cyclone Idai in the road networking sector. He added that as DDF, their responsibility and mandate was to make sure that roads are repaired and restored to their original state.
“We are repairing and attending to more than 600km of damaged roads in Chikomba district,” said Mudzingwa.
DDF is not only limited to the construction and repair of roads but it is also building schools and clinics. To that effect, DDF is constructing a school in Chikomba East ward 2.
Investigations and interviews conducted by this reporter revealed that Mutevere Primary School which the DDF is constructing was built in 1933.
“We are constructing a school at the request of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. The old structures were condemned by the Ministry’s inspectors as the buildings have developed cracks, roofing sheets now leaking and roofing trusses can no longer sustain strong winds and rains,” said Mudzingwa.
In its mandate to make rural structures meet standards, had its bridge the community and other amenities damaged by the Cyclone.
DDF is in the process of reconstructing the bridge which links Daramombe High School in Chikomba Central with the community. The bridge was damaged by Cyclone Idai.
DDF has since repaired a feeder road which connects the school to Chivhu main road.
