Chimanimani official death toll has risen to 339 as of 05 April 2019, following the discovery of 158 unidentified bodies who have since been buried in Mozambique, Harare Post can report.
A source which confided to Harare Post revealed that 347 bodies are still missing, while 193 were injured and are in various hospitals in Manicaland.
A health official who preferred anonymity said cases of diarrhoea were recorded in chimanimani.
“51 cases of diarrhoea were recorded in Ngangu township, ward 15, Chimanimani East Constituency. Members of Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) quickly intervened and constructed 67 latrines to contain further spread of the diseases,” said the source.
Harare Post interviewed victims of Cyclone Idai who complained loss of relevant Identity documents which included passports, birth certificates, and educational certificates among other important documents.
“We are appealing to relevant Government Ministries which include Higher and Tertiary Education and Home Affairs to come to our rescue,” said one of the victims.
Charity Chadzungira, Manicaland Provincial Head in the Ministry of Social Services had to stop 50 volunteers who were of loading and loading from Ngangu who were reported to have been given donated aid as payment.
According to Chadzungira that would cause furore from donors both local and abroad.
Resultantly, Econet Zimbabwe came in hand and employed 50 volunteers from the community and they were Eco cashed RTGS 2O per day for a three day period for offloading and loading food items and clothes.
Meanwhile officials from United Kingdom, Department for International Development (DFID), Annabel Gerrly and Alyster Burnette accompanied by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) officials, Aidan Cronin, George Turbol and Jeremiah Chinodya visited Silverstreams holding centre for Chimanimani to access distribution of food and the role of ZNA.
Various Government officials continue to visit Chimanimani to have first-hand information to update and appraise President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
