Following the clarion call for volunteers to come in hand and rebuild Chimanimani under the program dubbed, “Youth Rebuild Chimanimani, (YORECH)”, Zimbabwean youths in the diaspora are inquiring on how they can be part of the noble initiative.
ZANU-PF Youth League National Secretary for Administration, Tendai Chirau said their youth desk is compiling a list which comprises both local and foreign based youths keen to partake in the exercise.
“Following the visit organized by the Youth League last week, our desk is inundated with calls from youth’s volunteers local and abroad,” said Chirau.
Chirau said he was grateful that youths had realized that they had a role to play in the developmental trajectory of the country as enunciated by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“To imagine, we are receiving such numbers when YORECH is a voluntary programme shows a lot of patriotism among our youths,” said Chirau.
He said some youths are not even members of the National Youth Service Graduates.
“The kind of dedication is just amazing,” said Chirau adding that there was no food politicization of food distribution in Chimanimani and Chipinge.
“Those complaining, think they have monopoly of distributing donated goods, the distribution is being done by the Civil Protection Unit in Chimanimani and Chipinge,” said Chirau.
He said the CPU was working with local structures, traditional leaders who are mandated to do work within their communities.
“ZANU-PF cannot fold hands and watch, as such it provided its branded vehicles to move food to areas where big lorries could not access.
“Surely we could not remove our logos. As a party, we will be marketing our party as we distribute food,” said Chirau.
He said organisations such as Econet, Red Cross, Nyaradzo and others were doing their humanitarian work with their branded logos on their cars without anyone queering that.
“ZANU-PF has never hi-jacked food distribution but has come in handy to help,” said Chirau.
