Government is going to build a New Harare City to decongest the current Central Business District following the construction of the New Parliament building in Mt Hampden, the President has said.
Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony of the Zimbabwe New Parliament Building today at Mt Hampden, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the construction of the New Parliament building would result into the emergence of a New City.
“The relocation of Parliament to Mt Hampden will be a catalyst for subsequent development throughout this area and will see the establishment of other Government buildings, banking halls, shopping malls, residential areas and recreation facilities which will all culminate into the emergence of a New City,” said the President.
The President also said the construction of the New Parliament building would result in creating abundance of trade and investment opportunities for Zimbabwe.
“This development is thus bound to create abundant trade and investment opportunities for both local and international investors. I therefore invite developers and investors to come on board and develop a world class New City,” he also said.
President Mnangagwa called for surrounding rural district communities to be involved during the process of this new development.
“The surrounding local rural district councils and community at large are urged to work harmoniously with all stakeholders during the implementation of the project,” said the President.
