Contrary to rebuttal by the MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa, before the Commission of Inquiry into the August 1 incident, that the party`s leadership does not incite its supporters to commit acts of violence, Dr Nkululeko Sibanda, Chamisa`s spokesperson has uttered a contradictory statement that borders on inciting violence.
In a tweet that torched a storm, Dr Sibanda said, “Zimbabwe is out in full force and this regime thinks Zimbabwe is a pushover. Tahrir Square is possible.”
The statement was ushered during the MDC demonstrations, staged yesterday.
Tahrir Square which is also known as “Matyre Square”, is a major public town square in downtown Cairo, Egypt. The square has been the location and focus for political demonstrations in Cairo, most notably those that led to the 2011 Egyptian revolution and ouster of Hosni Mubarak.
Peace-loving Zimbabweans took to the social media lambasting Dr Sibanda’s utterances saying that Zimbabwe is a peaceful country that will not be moved by few MDC supporters bent on seeing the country crumble.
In response to Sibanda`s tweet, Zanu PF Youth League Secretary for Administration, Cde Tendai Chirau said, “Sibanda is more of an academic. He should know that what happened in North Africa will not happen in Zimbabwe. We are not shocked as Zimbabweans by Sibanda`s utterances because on the day they demonstrated we saw that MDC has adopted the way North Africa dresses.”
Tendai Biti and Nelson Chamisa yesterday were dressed in North America regalia.
“The democracy which was ushered by the new dispensation should never be abused by people who have their own agenda divorced from nation building. The situation whereby Sibanda compares North Africa to Zimbabwe is a fallacy. Chamisa is politically green. Zimbabweans expressed their choice during the 30 July 2018 elections which were held in peace and pronounced free and fair. His sentiments are a clear indication that his preferred candidate, Chamisa wants to get into power through unorthodox means. There is nothing democratic in MDC.
“Yesterday`s demonstration was more to do with their internal politics where we see a reincarnation of the Chipanga tactics where leaders are booed. What is surprising is that the MDC `s House of Assembly respect the ministers who come to Parliament but they do not respect the appointing authority who is the President of Zimbabwe. It’s surprising why they had to attack a man who was going for a parliamentary business to State House.”
The MDC supporters yesterday booed their party Vice President, Elias Mudzuri who wanted to address them during their demonstration. MDC blamed Mudzuri for meeting President Mnangagwa over parliamentary business.
Secretary General for Zimbabwe Children of War Veterans Association Richard Samunda said, “The Egyptians had genuine reasons to engage in that act. What genuine reasons does MDC have to stage demonstrations? We need to embrace His Excellency`s administration. He won the election on 30 July 2018.
“It’s only a few months after the election and MDC expect a miracle to happen over economy recovery, an economy which was destroyed in 37 years. I appreciate what this new dispensation is doing. It has done a lot in improving this country.
“MDC demonstration yesterday was a flop because it failed to achieve its goals of putting the country to a halt. Chamisa is an attention seeker. He wants to legitimize the power he grabbed from Thokozane Khupe. Yesterday he chased Mudzuri because he knows that he is illegitimate and thinks Mudzuri is a threat to him,” said Samunda.
Chamisa rose to power through the influence of the Vanguard group which he now claims to have disbanded. The group would fight anyone seen opposing Chamisa. At one point MDC-T leader Thokozane Khupe was nearly burnt in a hut at Morgan Tsvangirai`s funeral, the reason being that she was a threat to Chamisa.
