Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Midlands Province, Hon. Owen Ncube, yesterday visited Emthonjeni Primary School in Mbizo, Kwekwe, to distribute food hampers to 1,000 vulnerable residents, including the elderly and persons with disabilities.
The distribution included essential items, such as mealie meal, cooking oil, and soap. The event formed part of broader Government efforts to support vulnerable groups and improve community welfare.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Ncube said the programme reflected the Second Republic’s commitment to inclusive development.
“This food distribution initiative reflects the Government’s continued commitment to uplifting vulnerable communities and ensuring no one and no place is left behind,” he said.
He also praised President Mnangagwa for spearheading national development efforts.
“President Mnangagwa is the head of the train guiding Zimbabwe’s development,” he said.
Minister Ncube highlighted recent infrastructure projects as evidence of the country’s progress under the President’s leadership.
“We have witnessed landmark milestones, such as the completion of the Trabablas Interchange and the ongoing upgrades at Parirenyatwa Hospital,” he said.
Turning to political affairs, Minister Ncube urged ZANU PF members in Mbizo and beyond to remain focused, united, and disciplined. He emphasised the importance of the ongoing cell verification exercise.
“We must take cell verification seriously and ensure all members are included without bias,” he said.
He also encouraged the reintegration of those returning from the opposition into ZANU PF ranks.
“Let us welcome our returning comrades with warmth and unity,” he said.
Beneficiaries of the food aid expressed appreciation for the assistance, saying it came at a time when many households were struggling to make ends meet.
“This will help me for a few weeks. I am grateful because I had nothing in my kitchen this morning,” said 76-year-old Maidei Moyo from Mbizo.
Shepherd Dube, who lives with a disability, said the donation brought relief to his family.
“It shows that the Government is aware of the needs of people like me. I appreciate the help,” he said.
The distribution attracted residents from across Mbizo constituency, and local party officials also attended in support.
Minister Ncube said similar programmes would continue across the province, aligned with national development goals.
“We are working under Vision 2030 to improve the quality of life for all Zimbabweans, step by step,” he said.
As Zimbabwe continues to implement Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), such grassroots-level interventions are expected to play a key role in strengthening social safety nets, promoting community cohesion, and ensuring that development reaches even the most vulnerable members of society.
