Self-exiled Professor Jonathan Moyo’s attempt to discredit Government on social media by misrepresenting Government’s statement on oil and gas explorations in Muzarabani by an Australian Company, INVITICUS Energy Limited has been rubbished.
INVITICUS Energy released a press statement that rubbished claims by Prof Moyo and other detractors concerning President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s press statement on gas and oil discoveries in Muzarabani. The statement exonerated President Mnangagwa from such claims.
“At no time did President Mnangagwa state that an oil and gas discovery had been made in Zimbabwe, but that the exploration activity being undertaken by INVITICUS had positive indications and that an exploration well would be drilled to confirm the potential of the Mzarabani Prospect,” read the press statement.
From his speech, President Mnangagwa affirmed the commitment of the Government of Zimbabwe to support INVITICUS in its exploration program.
“Government of Zimbabwe will work very closely with INVITICUS to ensure that INVITICUS realises its plans to sink and exploration well by mid-2020.
“Updates will be given as and when the planned exploration work results come in,” added President Mnangagwa.
Netizens rubbished Prof Moyo for his selective reading and blasted his penchant to embarrass Government over an error by a media house.
One netzen, Tinashe Vuso said that “the same company (INVITICUS) said ED never confirmed that there is oil and gas in Muzarabani, I don’t know where you are getting your nonsense, anyway, hauna zvekuita it is tough being a jobless fugitive looked after by in-laws far away from home.”
Professor Moyo’s efforts to discredit Government seem to have hit a brick wall, as nobody is taking him seriously. Some people are referring his actions to those of a bitter man eager to settle scores. Government, however, continues to open its doors for business, to both local and international investors.
