Rifts deepen in CCC amid accusations of factional alignment

The conflict centres around accusations from Chitengu alleging Mafume's allegiance to the Sengezo Tshabangu faction, infamous for its series of recalls of legislators and councillors.

According to a well-placed source within Council, Chitengu has openly accused Mafume of playing a pivotal role in the Tshabangu faction's activities in Harare.

"Chitengu is adamant that Mafume is Tshabangu’s informant, dictating which councillors to recall. There is a belief that Mafume's loyalty has always been with Tendai Biti since their days in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and now Biti is perceived as the handler or the key figure behind Tshabangu," the source disclosed.

According to the source, the allegations took a more personal turn when Chitengu claimed to have evidence of Mafume's collusion with Tshabangu and Biti.

"Just a few days before she was recalled, Mafume informed Chitengu via WhatsApp about the impending recall, and it transpired exactly as warned," the source added, highlighting the gravity of the accusations.

In a move signifying the escalating rift within the CCC, Chitengu has reportedly taken drastic measures by removing Mafume and other alleged Tshabangu and Biti loyalists from the CCC Harare WhatsApp groups.

Among those ousted are known Biti supporters, including Prince Mutebuka and Emmanuel Gumbo.

"This is more than just a disagreement. It's a clear indication of the fractures and deep-seated mistrust within the party. These actions are creating an atmosphere of paranoia and division, further complicating the party's already complex dynamics," the source emphasized. "

Efforts to reach CCC spokesperson, Promise Mkwananzi for comments were unsuccessful, as calls went unanswered.
