Mozambican President, His Excellency Daniel Chapo, is set to officially open the 65th edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), which will run for an extended six days this year.
The high-profile event is scheduled to take place on April 25, 2025, in Bulawayo.
President Chapo, who was sworn into office in January 2025, will be making his first official state visit to Zimbabwe since assuming office.
His presence is expected to underscore the strong diplomatic and economic ties between Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
Speaking during a post-Cabinet media briefing in Harare yesterday, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, confirmed the development.
“The President of the Republic of Mozambique, His Excellency Daniel Chapo, will officially open the 65th Edition of ZITF on April 25, 2025. In terms of the current space booking situation, 95% has been booked to date, compared to 87% booked during the same period in 2024. International exhibitor space uptake has increased, with 29 countries having registered. This year’s ZITF has generated significant interest from both local and international exhibitors, signalling renewed investor confidence and heightened expectations for business opportunities in Zimbabwe and the region,” said Dr Muswere.
Meanwhile, Government has announced the rollout of the Presidential Internet Scheme, a major initiative aimed at bridging the digital divide and improving connectivity in rural areas.
The programme is expected to go live in June 2025.
“This initiative will employ advanced Low Earth Orbit satellite technology and fibre optic infrastructure to ensure comprehensive coverage and accessibility.
“The project will cover schools, Community Information Centres, Zimbabwe Republic Police Stations, Health Institutions, Traditional Leaders’ homesteads, Agriculture Extension Offices, Courts, District Development Coordinators’ offices, Vocational Training Centres and Growth Points in the wards,” explained Dr Muswere.
In the education sector, Dr Muswere noted that the cabinet has approved the Zimbabwe School Examinations Amendment Bill, a move aimed at tightening the examination system and addressing challenges, such as paper leakages.
Dr Muswere also gave updates on the National Youth Service, noting that two batches of graduates have so far graduated and are expected to be integrated into various sectors of the economy.
Additionally, the Government announced progress on multiple projects that are part of the ongoing 100-day cycle for 2025.
These include developments in water infrastructure, residential construction, roads, and energy – all aligning with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030 development agenda.
The Second Republic continues to prioritise infrastructure development, job creation, and regional partnerships as part of its broader efforts to drive sustainable economic growth.
