CCC in nomination fees scam

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has once again been accused of trying to solicit for money from its members, with the party's Chief Whip, Clifford Hlatshwayo,  reportedly going around asking for contributions of US$20 from each member towards nomination fees for CCC by-election candidates.

According to a source within the party, Hlatshwayo was reportedly soliciting contributions of US$20 from each party member purpotedly to cover nomination fees for CCC candidates

“Hlatshwayo is going around with a begging bowl asking for contributions from  each member towards nomination fees for CCC candidates. Hlatshwayo has assigned Kwekwe central legislator, Surrender Kapokhulu to receive the funds for the nomination court,” said the source

According to the source, this has left a bitter taste in the mouths of other CCC members especially the nine members who have already used their own resources to pay for nomination fees.

“This move has created divisions within the party, as some members feel that they are being unfairly targeted. These members are viewing Hlatshwayo’s actions as an act of favouritism, as some members have already successfully submitted their nomination papers and met their own fees,” revealed the source.

The CCC's latest scam is likely to further damage the party's reputation. It is also likely to alienate members who are already disillusioned with the party's leadership. The initiative is not likely to go down well with some  members who are now aligned to the party’s interim Secretary General, Sengezo Tshabangu.
