CCC Gutu West rally hangs in the balance

Internal reports suggest that the rally, originally planned to galvanise support for CCC's candidate, Ephraim Murudu in the upcoming by-elections against ZANU PF's stalwart, Cde John Paradza, is facing potential failure due to a lack of support from the party's own members.

A source within CCC revealed, "The enthusiasm and support we expected for the rally simply isn’t materializing. Members are not financially contributing, and those with vehicles are showing reluctance to avail them for transportation of supporters to the venue. It’s a precarious situation."

The source shed light on the internal turmoil within the CCC in Gutu, revealing that Evelyn Mazungu, a significant figure in the party, has conveyed her serious concerns to Amos Chibaya, that party’s movement mobilizer.

“She underscored the palpable lack of enthusiasm and support among party members, expressing fear that their planned rally could result in a conspicuous failure, potentially harming the party’s credibility at a critical juncture. Her candid communication with Chibaya underscores an acute awareness within the CCC of the challenges they face and serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for the party to rally its base and ensure robust participation to make a substantial impact in the upcoming by-elections,” said the source.

According to the source, Chibaya, however, seems to be taking a hard stance on the matter, insisting that the rally must proceed as planned.

“He (Chibaya) is pushing for party members to show unwavering support, stating that those who do not rally behind the party’s efforts should face the music, including potential blacklisting for future leadership positions within the CCC,” added the source.

The source added, “Chibaya’s determination is clear, but there is a growing sense that the party might be chasing a lost cause in Gutu West. The ground realities are not in our favour.”

The same source added that ZANU PF’s candidate, Cde John Paradza, appears to have struck a chord with the electorate through a series of impactful and life-changing programmes in the constituency.

The source reluctantly acknowledged, “Paradza has endeared himself to the voters. He has been active, and his programmes are making a difference. On the other hand, we are struggling to make our presence felt.”

As the scheduled date for the rally draws closer, uncertainty and internal discord continue to plague CCC's campaign efforts in Gutu West. The party now finds itself at a critical juncture, grappling with internal challenges while facing a formidable opponent in the upcoming by-elections slated for November 11, 2023.
