ZANU PF ready for primary elections

This internal electoral exercise is a result of vacancies created following the recent recall of 15 CCC legislators by the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) secretary-general, Sengezo Tshabangu.

The constituencies in the spotlight are Beitbridge West, Binga North, Bulawayo South, Cowdray Park, Lobengula-Magwegwe, Lupane East, Mabvuku-Tafara, Mpopoma-Mzilikazi, and Nketa.

Notably, ZANU PF's primaries will focus on Cowdray Park, Lobengula-Magwegwe, Lupane East, and Mpopoma-Mzilikazi constituencies.

During a press briefing held in Bulawayo yesterday, ZANU PF's National Political Commissar, Cde Mike Bimha, affirmed the Party's readiness for both the primaries and the upcoming by-elections.

Detailing the procedural aspects, Cde Bimha informed that the primaries were scheduled to take place at designated ward centres, which would double as polling stations.

According to Dr. Bimha, the Party's headquarters is set to deploy all necessary polling materials and staff, ensuring the primaries' integrity and order.

The National PC said that ballot papers, complete with security features like serial numbers and candidate names, were already prepared for the occcasion.

“Our structure's robustness, honed by recent campaign efforts, gives us confidence in our preparedness for the by-elections," stated Cde Bimha.

Cde Bimha also highlighted that the Party’s structural strength was a testament to its vitality and organisational acumen.

The National PC also announced the names of candidates who will contest tomorrow's primary elections.

In Cowdray Park, contenders include Eddington Mpofu, Tholakele Ndlovu, Japhet Phuti, Arthur Mujeyi, and Tripod Muyengwa.

Mpopoma-Mzilikazi will see Admire Masikati, Dzingai Kamamba, Nehemiah Tsoliwa, and Violet Mhute vying for the party's nomination.

Godwin Mugumba, Butholezwe Ndlovu, Enock Madzimure, and Menziwa Dube will be contesting in Lobengula-Magwegwe, while Lupane East's candidates are Thubelihle Nkomazana, Phathisiswe Masanu-Dube, Mbongeni Dube, and Dumaza Moyo.

The absence of primary elections in Bulawayo South and Nketa, as well as in Mabvuku-Tafara and Binga North, has been noted, pointing to a unified front in those constituencies.

Meanwhile, ZANU PF's initiative to conduct fair and competitive primaries ahead of the by-elections underscores a solidified practice of internal democracy. This not only augments the legitimacy of the party's candidates but also serves as a model for political engagement and selection processes in Zimbabwe.
