Chamisa strengthens position amidst rising internal dissent

Recent reports suggest Chamisa has been organising exclusive cluster meetings in regions such as Mutasa and Kariba, seemingly side-lining those he deems adversaries within the party.

A trusted source revealed, "There is a discernible strategy by Chamisa to solidify his standing, especially in the wake of the recent electoral setback. The exclusivity of these meetings underscores this, with attendees handpicked, often leaving out those critical of his leadership or those with contrasting viewpoints."

The source added that many CCC cluster leaders across Zimbabwe express feelings of marginalisation.

"The essence of community representation seems compromised. Chamisa appears to be selecting individuals based on loyalty rather than collective wisdom," the source commented.

According to the source, some CCC leaders, especially those from Mutasa and Kariba, echo a sense of detachment from Chamisa's overarching strategy, leading to speculations of an internal power struggle.

"His approach is increasingly insular, and this might inadvertently lead to party fragmentation," shared the source.

The source further said that CCC Movement Mobiliser, Amos Chibaya, appears to be a central figure in the chaos currently bedevilling that party.

"Many cluster leaders are directing their inquiries towards him, feeling that he might be a part of this strategic exclusion. Chibaya seems to be echoing Chamisa's sentiments, hinting at deeper post-election discord in regions like Mutasa South," noted the source.

According to the same source, inside whispers have further illuminated Chamisa's apprehensiveness towards the interim co-vice presidents, Tendai Biti and Professor Welshman Ncube. There are claimed suspicions they might push for an elective CCC Congress, posing challenge to Chamisa's hold.

However, in a bid to clarify his stance, Chamisa recently told SABC, "While Biti and Ncube had pivotal roles in the MDC Alliance, within the CCC, their positions are distinct."

The dynamics within the main opposition have grown palpably tense post the August 2023 elections, exacerbated by the removal of 15 MPs by Sengezo Tshabangu, who stands as the Interim Secretary General. This series of events has intensified the turbulence within the CCC, prompting many to question Chamisa's enduring role as a central opposition figure.
