As the country celebrated the launch of the Munhumutapa Day on September 15th, a day that coincided with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s 82nd birthday, the nation reflected on the remarkable journey of a leader who has tirelessly worked towards the betterment of the country.
President Mnangagwa stands as a statesman par excellence, whose leadership continues to inspire and drive Zimbabwe toward greatness.
The celebrations were organised by the Zanu PF Youth League, at the Great Zimbabwe monuments and managed to attract around 30 000 people, including the youth from all ten provinces. The event was celebrated under the theme ‘Rooted in the past, drawing towards a bright future: Empowering youths for nation building and Vision 2030.
Going forward 15 September will mark the Munhumutapa Day which will be celebrated in all the ten provinces in the country on rotational basis.
Munhumutapa Empire is a powerful Shona state that thrived from the 15th to the 18th century and the choice of Munhumutapa Day to celebrate President Mnangagwa’s birthday is deeply symbolic. It underscores his commitment to preserving Zimbabwe’s heritage while forging a path toward a brighter future.
President Mnangagwa has been a pivotal figure in Zimbabwe’s political landscape, steering the nation towards a future of prosperity and stability.
Born in the central region of Zvishavane, President Mnangagwa’s early life was marked by his involvement in the liberation struggle against colonial rule. His journey from a young freedom fighter to the highest office in the land is a testament to his unwavering dedication to the country. He is often referred to as “the crocodile” for his political acumen and resilience and has been a pivotal figure in Zimbabwe’s political landscape.
Despite the country facing numerous challenges, such as the sanctions and the economic hardships, President Mnangagwa has remained steadfast in his commitment to improving the lives of Zimbabweans.
Since assuming Office, his focus has been on attracting foreign investment, improving infrastructure, and promoting agricultural development. These efforts have begun to bear fruit, with significant investments in the mining, energy, and manufacturing sectors.
His dedication towards improving the healthcare services for the people of Masvingo has been evidenced by the upgrade of Masvingo Provincial Hospital as well as the establishment of the Simon Mazorodze School of Medical and Health Sciences.
On the sidelines of the event, Ezra Chadzamira informed of the launch of Munhumutapa Youth Housing Project at the Victoria Falls Ranch Extension in Masvingo.
