The ruling ZANU PF Party continues to consolidate its influence as over 500 members of the opposition, including former senior officials, rejoined the party over the weekend in Hwange District.
This latest wave of defections underscore ZANU PF's growing appeal, even among those who once stood in opposition.
Among the notable figures who have returned to the ruling Party are former Victoria Falls Mayor Somvelo Dhlamini, former Binga North legislator Patrick Nene Sibanda, and the former MDC-T Deputy National Organising Secretary, Munkombwe Dube.
Additionally, several former opposition councillors have also thrown their weight behind ZANU PF, citing the Party's robust development policies as the driving force behind their decision.
Former Victoria Falls Mayor Dhlamini expressed his admiration for the Government’s ongoing efforts in transforming the nation.
"The development transformation that is happening in our country is remarkable. ZANU PF's commitment to improving the lives of ordinary citizens is evident, and this is why I decided to return to the ruling Party," Dhlamini stated.
Sibanda echoed Dhlamini's sentiments, emphasizing the importance of aligning with a Party that is focused on tangible development.
"We have seen the results of ZANU PF's policies, and it is clear that they are working towards the betterment of Zimbabwe. It is only right to be part of a movement that is making real progress," Sibanda remarked.
Another defector who declined to be named highlighted the need for unity in driving the country forward.
"The ruling Party has demonstrated that it is more organized and committed to addressing the needs of the people. We have come back to contribute to this vision and to ensure that our communities benefit from the ongoing development initiatives," said the member.
Political commentator Calvin Chitsunge weighed in on the growing trend of opposition members defecting to ZANU PF, describing it as a clear indicator of the ruling party's strength and organization.
"ZANU PF is proving to be a force to reckon with. The fact that it continues to attract members from the opposition, including high-profile figures, shows that it is more organized and has people-centred policies than its rivals. This is a significant shift in the political landscape," Chitsunge commented.
Meanwhile, ZANU PF is not resting on its laurels and is continuing its aggressive mobilization efforts across the country.
Over the weekend, the Party held a successful mobilization and cell formation meeting in Dzimidza Ward 1, Tsholotsho South constituency.
The meeting, led by Senator Alice Dube, was well-attended, further highlighting the Party's grassroots support.
