Government has launched a significant initiative focused on upgrading primary and secondary education infrastructure nationwide in a move to elevate educational standards.

The Minister of Information, Publicity, and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, detailed the Government’s plans during a recent announcement.

“The Government has prioritised the construction and refurbishment of schools, ensuring that 40 satellite schools across all provinces are on track for completion within the first 100-day cycle of 2024,” said Dr. Muswere.

The Minister said that this rapid development highlights the Government's dedication to ensuring that every Zimbabwean child, no matter their location, has access to quality education.

Further enhancing educational facilities, Dr Muswere explained, "the upgrading of school infrastructure (rehabilitation and upgrading of classroom blocks, administration offices, and administration and water and sanitation hygiene facilities) at 11 schools is also in course for completion.”

According to the Minister, this comprehensive approach not only involves constructing new schools but also revitalising existing ones to better serve students and staff.

The initiative also extends to advancing science education, with Dr Muswere revealing that “the construction and conversion of 10 laboratories at schools in Manicaland, Matabeleland North, Harare Metropolitan, Masvingo, and Mashonaland Provinces.”

By bolstering practical learning environments, these laboratories are set to enhance students’ scientific skills, align Zimbabwean education with global standards, and prepare students for competitive futures.

Addressing another critical aspect of student needs, Dr Muswere noted "the construction of four sustainable and affordable boarding facilities in Manicaland, Masvingo, and Mashonaland East Provinces to reduce walking distances for learners."

These facilities aim to reduce the logistical challenges faced by many students, thereby improving their access to continuous education and creating an environment conducive to their academic and personal growth.

Meanwhile, these initiatives underscore the Government's commitment to not only improving educational infrastructure but also to the comprehensive well-being and future success of its youth.
