The former ZANU PF faction, the G40 has reportedly recruited the leader of the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC, Blessing Vava to spearhead its political agenda of ousting President Mnangagwa-led Government.
A source privy to the details confided in this publication that in their bid to continue influencing internal politics from exile, the G40 kingpins, Saviour Kasukuwere and Jonathan Moyo captured Vava to be the frontline man for their political activities in Zimbabwe.
According to the source, the G40 had initially tried to penetrate and capture the MDC Alliance so that it could unleash its vendetta against ZANU PF, but has later settled on Vava after failing to influence the MDC Alliance leadership. Vava, who spends much of his time in South Africa, was roped in by the G40 to influence various CSOs under the coalition to support and be foot soldiers of that formation.
“Vava was chosen because of his strategic position as the leader of a biggest coalition of CSOs. The choice of Vava was also ideal because during his stay in South Africa as the Regional Coordinator for CiZC, he had links with the African National Congress (ANC) and the G40 wanted to use him to create links with the ANC. To the G40, Vava was a man who could work for them both inside and outside the country,” said the source.
According to the source, Vava and the G40 kingpins have created a serious working relationships to the extent that Vava was now a frequent visitor at Kasukuwere residence in Midrand, South Africa. The source further said Vava also frequented a bar jointly owned by Kasukuwere and Patrick Zhuwao in Fourways, Johannesburg, where meetings to discuss the revival of the waning G40 project are held.
The source added that because of his relationship with the G40, Vava granted one of the G40 kingpins, Professor Moyo, space to contribute articles in the CiZC newsletter, the ZimBrief, and is paid a monthly allowance of US$400.00 for the articles.
However, there are reports that the majority of the CiZC members are not happy with Vava’s links with the G40 and there are plans to dethrone him and replace him with Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ), Obert Masaraure.
Last week, a CiZC virtual meeting was aborted after Elvis Mugari, leader of the Combined Restitution Association for Zimbabwean Youths (CRAZY), an affiliate of CiZC, accused Vava of not inviting other organisations to the meeting because he was afraid that they would spill the beans of his illicit deals with the G40.
