Disgruntled MDC legislators are praying that the Supreme Court upholds the High Court judgement of May 2019 which ruled that the MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa is not the legitimate leader of that party, Harare Post can reveal.
According to a party insider who preferred anonymity, MDC legislators are now frustrated with Chamisa’s leadership, accusing him of financially burdening them to finance all party programmes.
“Chamisa is interfering much into our day to day programmes. We are equally affected by the economic challenges and we cannot finance all party programs.
“We were even forced to contribute heavily a minimum of $1000 towards the recently held party anniversary celebration, a figure which is beyond our reach. We also need to feed our families and take our children to school.
“He recently introduced exorbitant penalty fees of $500 for MPs and party national members who abscond party meetings and parliamentary caucuses, even with genuine excuses,” lamented the source.
MDC introduced mandatory fees of US$ 200 monthly subscription for MPs to help finance party programmes, a move which steered disgruntlement amongst the MDC legislators.
Another insider further revealed to this publication that, “We are continuously being threatened with expulsion and subsequent recall from Parliament by National Chair, Tabitha Khumalo and Secretary General, Charlton Hwende,if we fail to contribute towards party programmes.
“We are not against the idea of supporting our party, but we are against ‘the rule of thumb’ being presented by Chamisa. We wish him to be ousted as party leader for us to get relief,” complained the source.
MDC has been on the record struggling to finance its party programmes. The party heavily relies on donor funding for majority of its programmes and is now crippled because of donor fatigue.
