The Government has significantly improved healthcare delivery in Murewa West by donating critical medical equipment and constructing new clinics in the province.
Speaking during a media tour yesterday, Medical Superintendent for Musami Hospital, Dr. Chris Chivinge, confirmed that St. Paul`s Musami Hospital had received essential equipment, including an X-ray machine and hospital beds.
"We serve about 120,000 people here at St. Paul`sMusami Hospital. With the new equipment, we can now provide better care for our patients. We received a digital X-ray machine and an anesthetic machine, which has been invaluable in the maternity ward. We can now offer cesarean operations. Additionally, we received a Biobase chemistry analysis machine," said Dr. Chivinge.
The new equipment and hospital extension are part of Government's broader strategy to revamp national health services and achieve universal health coverage, aligning with Vision 2030 of an upper-middle-income economy set by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
"We are really thankful to the Government. Through the Ministry of Health, the Second Republic has refurbished our facilities. We have also received a new ambulance, solar backup, and five boreholes to ensure a reliable water supply," he added.
Sister-in-charge of the maternity ward, Claveria Wuchirayi, expressed gratitude for the improvements, highlighting that the ward is now fully equipped with standard medical machinery.
"We have seen a significant improvement in maternity services, thanks to Murewa West Member of Parliament (MP), Honourable Farai Jere. More women are now opting for hospital deliveries instead of giving birth at home. We also received blankets for the maternity ward, which has encouraged expectant mothers to stay at the hospital. Additionally, the new anesthetic machine has made cesarean procedures easier, and the ambulance has ensured that patients with complications can be transferred quickly," she said.
In addition to the equipment donation, a new clinic is under construction at Jakopo Township in Ward 14, currently at window level.
Community members have welcomed the initiative, with local resident Samuel Kapuga expressing hope for its completion this year.
"The MP has donated building materials, and construction is progressing well. Villagers have had to walk long distances to access medical services, but this clinic will bring healthcare closer to home," he said.
Meanwhile, Government efforts to improve healthcare in Murehwa West are making a tangible difference in the lives of residents. With new medical equipment, improved maternity services, and ongoing clinic construction, access to quality healthcare is becoming a reality for many. As these developments continue, the community remains hopeful that healthcare services will keep expanding, ensuring better medical care for all.
